Kubi

Kubi is videoconferencing tool. A Kubi robot is an iPad with a motorized tablet stand which will pivot and rotate. Using a Kubi robot allows the videoconferencing participant look around the meeting or classroom and interact in real-time with classmates or colleagues.

Google Drive

Google Drive is part of the UW Google Apps suite. Google Drive is cloud-based storage area that can be used to store any kind of file. It can also be used for collaboration on Google Docs, Sheets and Slides.

Google Hangouts

Google Hangouts a video conferencing tool, similar to Skype, that lets you connect live with up to ten people over mic and webcam. You can also share slides and documents.

Google Hangouts is linked to a user’s Google profile, and because UW uses Google Apps for Education, you can use your yournetid@uw.edu account to access Hangouts.

Zoom

Zoom is a video conferencing tool that provides both video conferencing and screen sharing capabilities. It is similar to Skype and Google Hangouts.

Quicktime

Quicktime can be used to record your computer screen, and is often used by instructors to record instructional videos for software.

Powerpoint

The Online Learning Team maintains a guide about Powerpoint, which is available on Canvas via the iSchool Online Learning Support site. You can access the guide here.

The guide specifically addresses ways instructors can use Powerpoint for their lectures, and provides a tutorial on how to embed audio in Powerpoint slides.

Panopto

Panopto is a lecture capture tool that instructors can use to record and publish presentations online. It is able to capture audio, webcam video, PowerPoints, and desktop screens. It is a good tool to record narrated PowerPoints and computer tutorials.

Screencast-o-Matic

Screencast-o-matic is a screen capture software that can be used to create video from your screen (i.e. short lectures or course tours).

VoiceThread

VoiceThread is a collaborative, multimedia slide show that holds images, documents, and videos and allows people to navigate pages and leave comments. VoiceThread is typically used as a presentation tool.
